Evening. So basically I've got a choice of 3 motherboards for a machine im getting to use for uni work (solidworks and gaming). I've got a choice of

Asus P7P55 LX

Asus P7P55D Pro

Asus P7P55D-E Pro

From Pc specialist. I was wondering if anyone could tell me the best option given I want a good spec machine. The other main components are

Intel Core i7 870

4GB samsung dual ddr3 1333mhz ram

Geforce GTX460 1GB

Cheers

Hi awalmsley11 and welcome to Tom's forum.

Do u plan OC? Like I see u will be fine with the P7P55 LX or P7P55D Pro u don't need all the features of the P7P55D-E Pro if u don't plan OC the rig or use SLI or Crossfire.

I don't plan to OC as of yet. SLI isn't a major issue as the only change to graphics would be a quadro fx3500 and i doubt it can be used with the geforce I specced. SO how much better is the pro?

The Pro gives u the SLI or Crossfire possibility @ x8 but since u don't plan use it the LX is better option.

My personal experience with ASUS motherboards these days is not as good as it was few years back. I own a P7P55D and I had to send it to ASUS once already and they had to send me a refurbished replacement. If you are building an Intel core machine, try to see if you have a higher end Intel manufactured motherboard.

There's only asus D: The only other option is an Asus Maximus or something like that.

The Maximus is and expensive mobo that u don't need ASUS is one of the best (maybe the best) mobo's manufacturer.

Cheers gentlemen. The maximus is some 3 slot thing for pci e. Nuts to that irrelevance. I'll go with the pro i think.
