In a pickle.

Ok, I currently have an Athlon II X2 250 Regor(AM3), clocked at 3.51GHz and I want an upgrade, I get kind of laggy in some of the newer games; I have a 5850, so I know it's not the GPU. I would like something that is more than 2 cores, and a good overclocker. My budget is currently up to $120CAD, I am working on getting some more to spend on a CPU.

The only website I use to purchase things is www.NewEgg.Ca/ I would buy things locally if they weren't 3-4 times more expensive.....( I live in a small town, that isn't technologically advanced, in Computers)

I'm into Overclocking and squeezing out every little drop of performance I can get, so any help would be appreciated.

I would get this.

Phenom II x3 720BE

3 cores is the sweet spot for gaming and L3 cache does help improve gaming also this is an OEM chip so that means it comes with no cooler but you want to overclock anyways so that shouldnt matter. The 720 is a solid gamer and also has the possibility of being unlocked into a quad core but even if it dosent it will porform very good and overclock great being a BE chip with unlocked multi.

I've had that CPU in my Cart for quite some time, but the thing is, I'm getting an ASUS M4A89TD PRO and I'm not sure if I'd be able to Unlock, since pretty much every X3 720 was unlocked on a 790 Chipset; I wouldn't run into a problem would I? I wouldn't mind if I didn't, as I'm paying for an X3, not an X4 and I can just OC the crap out of it :D

Ya I know that, but AMD has been issuing a patch, so that you are unable to unlock any locked cores on a Processor that has any. But it's worth a shot and if I can't I wouldn't mind as I have more than 2 cores anyway :)  and it Overclocks rather good :D

Yes, I realize that, but I haven't seen any news of being able to unlock on anything higher; mainly due to most reviews being done in 2008... I'll keep searching, I won't be buying for about another month, hopefully less.
