Lenovo Thinkpad T420 - SSDs that are larger than 160GB

Hi,

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T420. On Lenovo website they sell no SSD larger than 160GB.

Any idea which SSD of around 300GB would work well and fast with my computer?

How much are you willing to spend? There are no SSD drives in the 300GB range...however there are some in the 256GB range as well as 512GB Range.

The 256GB version sell for approximately ~300US where as 512GB versions go for ~600 dollars.

I would go for either:

Crucial M4 256GB SSD ( I have the 128GB version - very stable and reliable).

Intel 520 240GB SSD

I have 3 follow-ups on this:
1 - Lenovo customer-support claimed that T420 cannot accomodate more than 160GB SSD. Sounds bosug to me - am I right?
2 - Is the Crucial drive you recommend relatively fast? I know that SSDs can be slower and faster.
3 - Anything in between 256GB and 512GB?

1 -> I am not exactly sure, however it doesn't really sound legit. However I will be cautious and say that an SSD drive larger than 160GB may possibly not work. However there should be no reason it wouldn't.

2 -> The crucial M4 Reads at about 500MB/sec, and writes at about 150MB/sec, which is insanely fast, note this is for the 128GB version, the 256 might be slightly faster.

3 -> Ok I might have been wrong about no SSD drives in the 300GB range but here they are:

Intel 320 series 300GB SSD - 559.99 However it is much slower - coming it at 270MB reads and 205MB/sec writes

Hello,

I am wondering about this state. We are working for more than a year with 256GB SSDs from Lenovo - delivered by Toshiba.

Last month my colleague ordered another one. Official branded by Lenovo "ThinkPad 256GB FDE Solid State Drive".

I upgraded my T420 HDD with an Intel 520 series 180GB SSD, and no problems...

well the t420 comes with an i5, so we are well past the era of the 128gb limit, and it comes with a 500gb HDD... so yeah, they are full of it.
