alright so i currently have windows 7 64bit with 4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 2 x 1024MB, now my mother has a HP pavilon P6000 that she no longer uses so she gave it to me i notice that the pavilon has 5GB of ram on the label of the memory shows 2Rx8 PC3-10600U-9-10-b0(sorry idk anything about ram), should i go ahead and swap those to my system or would it be just a waste of time? i do play games like dead rising 2 COD crysis mafia etc etc thanks

Depends on your motherboard and whether it supports the faster ram. Most oem boards don't. If yours is dell, hp, etc, then no, you won't benefit from the other ram. Some boards also only run at the faster speed when you overclock the cpu; again, not possible with oem boards. List your board if you want more replies.

Quote:
your EVGA 680i SLI is a ddr2 800 motherboard
the RAM from mom's HP is ddr3 1333
making them incompatible.
that's the por que.?
if not running SLI cards currently then trying swapping units on trial basis and possibly upgrade the HP.

ahh gotcha
