Motherboard suggestions needed

I need some suggestions for a mobo. My son is getting a small upgrade from his P4 Prescott. I'm going to drop in a Core 2 Duo E6320 with DDR2 RAM. He has 8500GT PCI-e video card, IDE hard drive and DVD-ROM and that's it. I need to know some decent boards for his new proc, and I need:

IDE channel(s);
onboard audio;
ethernet and;
overclocking ability so he can take advantage of my old Arctic Freezer HSF.

I'd also like some upgrade paths on the board (SATA ports, RAID isn't needed, MAYBE SLi but I'm guessing by that time he'll have my current board and I'll have a Core i5 or i7).

Thanks for the suggestions, my knowledge of DDR2 mobos is rather limited, since there seems to be a boatload of them. OH, and it doesn't have to be new, I don't mind finding a used one somewhere... I figure the peeps here would have some experience with boards they are/have used.

  2. Perfect. Does ASUS make one like that for DDR3? I have a P5Q3 now but it's crossfire and I want SLi. My OCed POS Q8200 wants it, not me, hehe. Those pesky Core2Quads are always whining!
  3. Sure, but not one that supports the older LGA 775 CPU. Do you want to purchase a new CPU?
  4. No, not currently. Down the road I will, as soon as I can decide on 1366, 1156 or wait til 1155 sockets come out for better down the road possibilities.
