After reading the note about the widow not being able to survive if I took
the money left for her, I must admit I had to think twice about taking it

I was forced to take it. I felt like a real heel too. One thing I
desperately hope they fix in the next patch is the fact that, on Expert,
you have to take the pouch to fulfil the loot requirements.

if you do take it, she sends a pathetic thug after you near your hideout the
next day

How would she know it was Garret that did it? I did wonder why that thug was
back though, haden't seen him since Lady Elizabeth hired them to take me
out.

Yes, I did take the money, I figured I did her a favour, as without that
money she would have to sell the house and move into town. She'd be much
better off there than all alone out on that island don't you agree? )

I couldn't find any reward for giving the wine to her. She said thank you
and kept talking about every day things - or ramblings what ever If
somebody did find something worth the effort of sneaking down to the kitchen
and carrying a bottle up to her except for a thanks, I would like to know
what it is too!

Not 100% sure ... but try taking her money without giving her any wine.
Just like Lady Elizabeth, she doesn't take kindly to being robbed.
She'll send for her money ...
