Dvd drive will only play DVD movies

Hello,
My DVD drive on my laptop will only play DVD movies, it won't recognise any other disc cd or DVD. I have put another drive in it and the same problem. I think there is a conflict somewhere. Can anyone help please

When you put, for example, a music CD and go into My Computer and look at the drive, do you see any files, or do you get an error?

No, I do not see any files. It doesn't show any disc. I am running XP. I did manage to get a DVD data disc to work.

Hi guys..

you go to control panel and reset the hardware setting. then try to play the cd.
