Conecting two computers

Hello,
i have connected my laptop wireless to my desktop but can only use the laptop as when i use the desktop i have to redo the connection to get my laptop working again is there something i can do or maybe purchase to be able to run the two computers without having to reset them

You should be connecting the laptop wirelessly to a router which is handling your Internet connection, or which is itself wired to a MODEM that does the job. Could you please post some more details of your setup?

i have done that but if i use my desktop i have to reconnect if i need to use the laptop later i`ve been reading a few comments and i think the problem might be that iv` not named the two computers the same, might that be the reason

As far as the router is concerned, it doesn't matter what the computers are named because it only uses MAC addresses which are unique to the individual computer. What may have happened is that both computers have the same IP or Internet Protocol address and you can stop that happening again by enabling automatic DHCP. The instructions for that vary between Operating Systems so pelase post back which you use - XP, Vista, Windows or other and someone can advise.

Meantime, please go Start to Run (Windows key plus R) and in the open box, type cmd /k ipconfig /all (including all the spaces) then hit Enter. Right click anywhere in the black form that follows, and choose Select All. Press Enter and that puts all the text into your Clipboard. Open a Reply box here and hit Control and V together to post that information back here.

This should work in both - double click the network icon and go to Properties. Don't do teh following if there are blocks of nuymbers in eth boxes starting with 10.15.0 or 15.0.0. Post back if there are. Otherwise, scroll in the centre pane to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and go to the Properties of that. Make sure that the radio buttons for "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically" are both blobbed. Apply and OK your way out.
