The 300gtx are OEM cards, I assume you mean Fermi which is now called the 400 series, they should be out by the end of March and you will probably need to fight tooth and nail to get one before they are sold out.

Why do you need to upgrade, a 285 gtx is already a beast that can last you another year. What is your budget and screen resolution? Getting ATI's new 5850 or 5870 would be a slight upgrade for $300-400, maybe not worth it for that much. The 5970 would likely double your performance for $600 but unless you have a 2560x1600 screen it is a waste of money.

I dont see a reason to upgrade from your current card. The 5850 is only slightly better than your GTX 285. The 5870 would be about a 10fps gain in some games, maybe higher in others. The only real upgrade that might make some sense would be going to a 5970, but you have to make sure it'll fit in your case since its ridiculously long and they're kind of hard to come by.

I'd sit tight until June....fermi will be ramped up, ATI will have responded and you can choose where ya wanna go from there.

Though if you don't care about Dx11, oughta be quite a few 285's starting to appear in Craig's list as the 400 series approaches and SLI would be a cheap upgrade.

Tho personally I'd wait till June
