Hello, I am researching for my first build and I plan to use the Phenom X4 965 processor. I have looked at different brands and am more confused than when I started. What motherboards would work the best for a gaming style build with a windows 7 os?

Gigabyte and ASUS both make high quality boards. I would suggest the 955 with the C3 stepping as its cheaper and has the same unlocked multiplier as the 965 does allowing you to OC to 965 levels for free.

For a gaming setup you probably want the 790X or 790GX chipset to allow for CF in the future. You could also get the new 890GX board that came out today but i personally dont play guinea pig for brand new tech. You can get a 955 and a 790X for $260 on newegg.
