Hello,
I have a Gateway NV7802U with a T6600 processor. I'm wondering if it can be upgraded and if so, what is the largest processor that will work with it and the board will handle? Ideally I'd like to get a Core 2 Quad.

Also its not even a guarantee that the new processor will work since it will need support in the bios for it. The chip may fit but without support will not work no matter what. Then you have to look at the cost of a mobile chip which can cost about 3 to 4 times as much as a desktop counterpart. 9 times out of 10 you are better off just staying with that laptop and upgrade to a new one when you can afford it.

How can I find out if my BIOS supports a related processor? Like the Q9000 and the Q9100? I can find those for under $300 and I don't mind taking laptops apart. I just replaced a power jack yesterday in my other laptop. The PITA was removing the original solder.
