Mar 19, 2012, 6:27 AM
The power went off while I was working from my laptop with my external Hard disk connected.
Today, I cant access the data on my external HD and its asking me to formate the HD first.
What to do? is there a way to take a back up of all the data before formating the HD?

If your system is telling you to format the drive so you can access it the file system may be corrupt. Try doing a chkdsk on the drive and then accessing it.

If chkdsk doesn't work for you, you may be able to retrieve your files with find and mount before formatting the drive.
