I'm thinking of buying a new mobo and a i5 3570k to go with it. I want to push the cpu to 5ghz, will the H80 be enough? Also I heard closed loop coolers don't preform as well as "real" cooling systems. Can I just ghetto it up a bit and cut one of the tubes and then hose clamp it to a reservoir?

You heard correct, all-in-one water coolers perform nowhere near custom loops.

Also if you want to hit 5Ghz I would invest a bit more into your cooling solution than a H80. Think maybe $200 worth of water-cooling parts.
