The SSD is: Mushkin Enhanced Cronos 120GB Sata III. Anything that I should know before hand? The SATA port that you will connect the SSD to should be in AHCI mode for maximum performance. | Report abuse Related ressources Just ordered need help!! - Forum Need Input on new rig, ssd , & xfire - Forum First Build, Need recommendations, and input soon! AHCI... setup in the Bios? I heard that some SSD's need some kind of upgrade, I'm trying to find out before I get it. This will be replacing his boot drive. I also heard that is best to do a clean install rather than just transfer the OS and main programs, is this true? I'm right now backing some of his "most important" files, documents etc... I also need to wipe that hard drive clean. | Report abuse kelthic March 21, 2012 12:37:15 AM Correct AHCI is set up in the bios. Do a clean install. you may need to do a firmware update on the SSD itself to ensure maximum performance. | Report abuse drwho1 March 21, 2012 1:00:45 AM kelthic said:Correct AHCI is set up in the bios. How do I know if I need a firmware update? | Report abuse Best solution kelthic March 21, 2012 1:09:46 AM Find the exact drive on: http://www.mushkin.com/Digital-Storage/SSDs.aspx. The ssds that have available updates have a section labeled firmware updates, such as the one on: http://www.mushkin.com/Digital-Storage/SSDs/MKNSSDCR120.... There is a green link. It looks like the Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe 120GB does have an updated but the Mushkin Enhanced Chronos does not (no deluxe in name). | Report abuse drwho1 March 21, 2012 2:00:11 AM Best answer selected by drwho1. | Report abuse drwho1 March 21, 2012 2:00:24 AM thanks! | Report abuse kelthic March 21, 2012 2:02:02 AM anytime | Report abuse Register or log in to remove Ask the community Publish Tom's Hardware>Forum>Storage>Just ordered an SSD, need some input...> Related ressources: ForumJust ordered a laptop.
