Shove if you must go with a cheaper PSU. the raidmax and the silverstone (@ a quick look) are the only 2 of your suggestions that have 80 plus cert they will save you money on power bill so in the long run will be cheaper & probably more inportant are more enviromentaly freindly :)

If i had no choice but the ones you suggested yes thats the one i would go for. It maybe @ the top end of what your willing to pay but as i said it will save you money in the long run over the other non 80+ psu's.

The Silverstone is ok, but why are you trying to get such a cheap unit?

I recommend this one instead, you won't regret getting it.

Not really relevant, that's an Enhance built unit, the little 500 is built by Impervio.

Get that or forget it.

In your price range, a 5870 will be pushing these PSUs close to 70-80% their ratings at times, only good quality PSUs can manage that reliably. If you get a cheap one it very well may die and take that nice new 5870 and the rest of your PC with it. That Silverstone is very questionable. I have not seen a good budget Silverstone PSU yet.

Look here to see what happens to cheap PSUs:

Rosewill is actually a decent company owned by Newegg.

Also, heres a PROFESSIONAL review on the 630W version: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/881/10

Right, but not the exact same unit.

He will be running 375-400w at times, so 400w/500w = 80% load which is out of the optimal range of any PSU. When you operate at below 25% or above 75% of the rated wattage, you better have a good quality PSU, not just a "good for a cheaper unit". The extra $15 will net him a far reduced chance of failure, a good buy.

i like the price, nice look, and power of that rosewill psu. afaik rosewill has some good and plenty of crappy models. is this one decentor good or crappy? thanks.
the antec 500w would be nice, but it seems to have about the same or less power, a smaller (aka noisier) fan, right?
i am thinking i should go for the rosewill. is that a bad decsiion. also, just to let people know:
-amd athlon 64 x2 3800+ 2ghz socket939 cpu
-win7 x86 ultimate
-512mb ram (will up to 1 or 2gb soon)
-wd 160gb sata
-dvdrw drive
-dvdrom drive
-no case fans

the thing is, since im not runnign very high powered components. why do i need such a powerful psu? the gpu doesnt need 500w to itself, does it? and seeing that hp was running all this off of a bestec 250w 20pinpsu (on a 24-pin mobo) and it still worked (im now on a marginally better ultra 400w p4-compatible psu)...
