Notebook Memory - Quantity vs Speed

Hi all, I am sure it has been asked before, but I can't seem to find a definitive answer. Which alternative would give better overal performance, 1gb of DDR400 notebook memory, or 1.25gb of mixed memory (1gb of DDR400, and 256mb of DDR333). The old computer is just being used for web surfing, email, and word processing. Thanks for your learned replies....

More about notebook memory quantity speed
  1. Never knew that mixed memory work together!

For RAM's to work they should be of exact same specs.
  2. At those speeds it doesn't matter, so I'd go for the Quantity. And ^+1 not to mix; especially SS + DS. The Type, Speed, CAS timings, and Voltage need to be matched.

Otherwise, soon you'll be posting back "New RAM won't work, PC unstable..."

    Good Luck!
  3. Yes, ram of mixed speeds work together, usually. Generally all the memory works at the lower speed. I went with quantity over speed, the ram all works at 333mhz, and the pc is stable, at least it has been for two weeks. Thanks for your help!
  4. Quantity takes precedence over speed almost everytime.. However in this case, i doubt if the 256 MB of extra memory will make any much difference..
