hi there, my english is not perfect , i hope you can understand me..

i want to setup a computer

1. Intel skul trail motherbord ( 500 €) with 2x intel 7 940 (260 €) or 2x i7-860 (290 €) = 500+260+260= c.a 1000 euro

2. I7-870 (550 € ) or i7-960 (590 € ) or i7-950 (588 € )with a good motherboard ( single cpu i dont know whic one is better for Intel 7 preis c.a 350 euro)

whic config. is better

1. has more ghz , core and cache 100-200 euro expensive but i don"t know how its stability?

2.whic motherbord for these cpu?

whic one must i choose and why ? pls help me i am confused :(

thanx to everyone

Skulltrail does not officially support i7 processors, only Core 2.

The i7-960 configuration would probably be better. It may perform less than 2 Core 2 processors, but it would consume less electricity, and produce less heat.

Intel skull trail to my knowledge is a platform with two core 2 extreme QX9775. The reason for this is because they are server processors on socket 771 (the server socket). Desktop CPUs like the core i7, or any other core 2 model do not support more than 1 CPU. The QX9775 is the only core 2 CPU on socket 771 and the only CPU beyond the intel Xeons that support dual CPUs. This is the same idea as AMD's much older Athlon FX processors. Those were higher clocked server processors on a server motherboard. To my knowledge, they do not have "enthusiast" server socket core i7s.
If you are still interested in dual CPUs, the intel Xeons quad cores come at 2.93GHz per core:
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=30796&processor=X7...

The i7 960 is faster than the i7 870. I do not know what you mean by stability. No CPU company would sell you an unstable processor.

But you don't need an expensive server setup to do what you need to do anyway. So here are a few questions that can help me to help you:
1. What is your budget?
2. All your choices are intel core i7. Would you prefer I keep my suggestions confined to intel products, or , specifically, intel core i7 products? Do you have any other brand preferences with other components?
3. Specifically what games do you intend to play? What is your monitor resolution?
4. Specifically what programs will you be using for video rendering? What is "etc"?

The i7-960 is a really really good processor. Go for the i7-960, and get a decent video card. Maybe an ATi 5770, or if you could stretch your budget, the 5850.

The 5850 could play almost all of the current games on maximum settings.

1. awesome. I forgot to ask where you will be buying from though? I'm in Canada so I could go on and convert funds then base my prices on stores here, but that might not entirely reflect prices where you are.
2. Of course the i7 is a better performing CPU. But in most cases, the performance gain is not worth the price. Or not even needed or noticed.
3. Awesome. But you forgot to mention your monitor resolution. Size of the monitor does not make a difference. The number of pixels the GPU has to render makes a difference. Your samsung is either 1280x720, 1366x768 or 1920x1080. Alternately, the first two resolutions can be labelled at "720p" and the third can be labelled at "1080p".
"All Games with max quality". That is a high request. The game Crysis, for example, still cannot be rendered at 1920x1080 with max settings and 16x AA enabled by even a setup where the graphics cards alone cost over $1000. Please list the games you wish to play. Also, how long do you intend to keep the computer for?
4. Awesome. I don't know too much about video encoding but that helps for anyone else who looks at this thread and has an answer. So when I look at the CPU and suggest one, I will be referencing the "video encoding" benchmarks from this site:
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/CPU/27
There are 7 benchmarks for me to look at. I would also like to note that in some cases the CPU scores are very close. I have noticed that when they are very close, strange results are listed. Such as two CPUs with the same architecture, one with a higher clockspeed, but the lower clockspeed winning. At this point, I consider them to be the same.

Now onto my suggestions. These suggestions are based on USA prices from Newegg.com. After euro to dollar conversion, we are looking at about $1200 USD. The following is what I would build for myself if I were doing what you do.

CPU: $160: Phenom II 955 BE. C3 stepping. Because it will overclock the same as the 965 C3 stepping but is $20 less.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Motherboard: $120: Excellent motherboard with 8x crossfire capability.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Memory: $120: Mushkin because really, they are the best. And 7-7-7-20 timings at 1333 MHz is hard to beat. Get 8GB instead of 4GB if you intend to keep this computer for more than 2-3 years without upgrading.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Hard drive: $90: samsung F3. The fastest for the price and apparently the quietest. 1TB for all that video encoding. Get as many as you need.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Power supply: $90 :650W corsair. Enough for the system and perhaps even more. Very well reputed brand.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

This leaves $620 for a case and power supply. This is enough for a single radeon 5870 and one expensive case. Or you could stretch your budget and add a second 5870 for better graphics performance.
Personally, I would get the case and single 5870. Game and see how you like it. If you find it insufficient, grab a second 5870 and crossfire them.
I am not fond of multiple GPU systems myself. The performance gains are not worth the cost of the cards in most cases. I have also experienced stuttering with the old GTX295 dual chip card even with the latest drivers. I am unsure if stuttering issues have been completely resolved with crossfire and SLI on the new cards. Personally, I would get the single 5870, wait two years and upgrade to a radeon 7870.

Anyway, that's my take. Feel free to ask any questions or let me know more information to help :)

Then go for it. It is a good build. And the western digital blacks are awesome. I'd go for an XFX brand 5870 though, due to the double lifetime warranty.

Personally I wouldn't spend $400 on a CPU for the slight performance gains. Then again, I am someone willing to upgrade a lot. The best bang for buck is in the mid-end.

You friend failed to notice that the 1366 chipset takes triple channel memory, not double channel memory. If you put in those 4GB of memory, they will run in single channel mode. Although, there really isn't much of a performance gain from single to dual or triple channel setup.

WD Black is not an SSD.

Wow that sure goes beyond your budget. If you want to pay for it, then get it. I just still don't think it's worth it.

thanx for your config. but i am worried about AMD , everyone says intel better and amd has more "heat "

Bullshit. Who's everyone? My Athlon II 620 overclocked to 3.25GHz hits 55C on load. My friend's stock. Phenom II 955 hits the same on load. Both on stock cooling. If anything, the i7s run hotter. They both have about the same TDP too. phenom II 965 is 125W and the i7 is 130W.

About the games, you still forgot to mention the monitor resolution. Even with a 5870, don't expect to be able to max everything out. But you will be able to play most games at high settings. Even Crysis will run something like 40FPS maxed out at 1920x1080. But without AA.

No problem.

Sometime in the past 5 years or so, in order to increase bandwidth someone came up with the idea of having a motherboard set up so that you can install pairs of memory chips instead of individual ones. They work together and are theoretically faster. Triple channel is the same except the memory is installed in threes.
The kit of ram you are looking at supplies 2 identical ram chips, not three. You want to look at 3x2GB kits. I recommend mushkin if you can get it. But corsair is awesome too.

As for AMD, you are limiting yourself. Not necessary now and since you are willing to spend $400 on a CPU. But potentially in the future. Intel is currently the performance leader at over $200 but AMD is the performance leader under $200. Intel has the most powerful processors- at the premium cost. This was not always the case. Around 2003 when AMD first came out with their Athlon 64 processors, and even back to the Athlon XP days, AMD had faster processors. Unfortunately for them, because everyone thought, without factual basis "intel= good. pentium 4=good. gotta get one of them pentium 4s" AMD's market share never even reached 50%. They had to sell their more powerful processors at a lower price. Of course, these days, since the core architecture came out in 2006, intel has come out ahead again. I just recommend you don't bash a company's product you know nothing about just because intel has better marketing. I've looked at the spec sheets of both the latest AMD and intel processors and there is nothing to indicate inferiority for either when it comes to heat or power. Both companies come with the same 3 year warranty. Both have stable CPUs. Neither company would sell an unstable CPU.

Anyway, also remember technology changes quickly. Your options may change in a few months if you wait. Half a year, and they will change for sure.

That board is awesome looking for crossfire too. 3-way crossfire would still be at 8x mode. Good luck with your build :)

No bad. Very bad.
You are recommending Nvidia's old DX 10 only GTX295? I recently tested one out for several weeks. The stuttering issues have not been completely resolved, even in the latest drivers. I would rather have played COD4 with reliable framerates at lower settings on my radeon 3870. Not to mention the power requirements. And... did I mention lack of DX11 support?
