Power Supply usage

I was wondering if I can go over the wattage of my PSU. I have an 850w Corsair PSU, and i have an i7 920(LGA1366), evga GTX 480, 6GB DDR3 Corsair Dominator. I am currently using 657w. I want to get a coolermaster v10, but it sounded like it uses 200w. Is this true? Also i was thinking of getting a second 480. THANKS.



Also i had a tmobile popup 8 times while typing this. Whats up with that? That needs to be taken care of.

I doubt you are using 657W.
Two GTX480 and an oc'd i7 9xx will use roughly 700W.
A CMV10 is a poor choice for a cooler btw.
It's overpriced and it's performance is mediocre.

Wow, these are really good charts. So basically i can have 2 480's running at maximum using 624w. Plus all of my other components. I think i might have to get a new PSU, maybe 1000 watt, because i checked neweggs PSU calculator and it said id be using 982watts with dual sli, i7, and a 7200rpm hdd. Also do you know how much wattage a CPU cooler uses?

Yeah the v10 is crap I have seen way to many reviews and it is not good. You might want to get adblock to not have crap ads pop up on you.

geez man, your psu is wayway enough, 850w is very big for a desktop, and its not just a cheap psu, its a corsair 850w, your psu can run your system very well.
even if you put cpu coolers, hi end sli cards etc. its still not enough to maximize your 850w. usually a psu with more than 800w are for servers.
and your cpu im sure is not a server, even a 750w branded psu can run your system.

Wow, i just used a PSU calculator on a different website other then Newegg. Im starting to wonder if Newegg makes it seem like your using more watts, so you would be forced to go higher. hmmm. Because on this other website, i was getting like 537 right now the way my system is, newegg said 657. when i added the CPU cooler, and a second GPU it was still under 800w. oby20 your correct on this one so far. Im still open to some good answers.

I guess i didn't spell it out for you in my first post.

So then your telling me that i can get another GTX 480 for SLI and Overclock my CPU as much as i want., without getting a new PSU?

Yes if you read the Guru3D review i linked they were using an oc'd Core i7 965 @ 3750 MHz and using under 700W that leaves 150W of headroom.
The TechPowerUp review i7 920 @ 3.8 and 625W in SLI.
