I have a problem. I've overclocked my i7 860 to 3.3 GHz, and now, with 5 minutes of Prime95, Coretemp shows a load temperature of 77-80 degrees C across the cores. Have I mounted the cooler improperly?

I have the Corsair H50, and it is set up with Q-Fan, min. state 20%, max. state 100% - upper boundary 60 deg.

i7 860 @ 3.33 Ghz, Vcore 1.25
Asus P7P55D-E Pro
H50 1 fan, exhaust

Disable Qfan and allow the pump to run full speed, it should be somewhere in the 1400 RPM range.
Add a second fan for push/pull, unless it's cool inside the case these should be acting as intake, and you should have an exhaust on the case top.

My modded H50 with 2x120 rad keeps an 17-980x that is overclocked to 4.27 at 65c under Prime load.

I have one installed on my i5 750 in a antec 300. I think it might be your mounting. Your questioning that yourself, was there a step you were unsure about ? Plus where the temps climb so fast , its not a sign of bad airflow, that would take more time. I have push pull two fans exhausting out of my case. When I start prime 95 , it jumps from 20's to 50'-52 almost immediately then over the course of 5 minutes climbs to 59-61 and stays there (I'm at 4.0ghz 1.44V). When you push the metal nuts in to the back plate , did you seat them all the way in ? Did you tighten the 4 screws corner to corner ? You might want to check to see if one of them feels loose now?
