Friend of mine got arsoned out of his home last week.
Fire department did a number on the house with (phosphoric acid)foam and
the wet ceiling
fell in on an open/operating thinkpad 600e.
I managed to get everything working except the keyboard.
The keyboard looks like it's glued together, so I didn't try to take
it apart.
Anybody successfully reassembled a thinkpad keyboard? Pointers?
Yes, you can get 'em on ebay, but the owner is REALLY strapped for cash
at this time.
Thanks, mike

It is not likely that the kb can be repaired. An external kb should
work. Look for a local computer store that rolls their own computers.
They often have side businesses in used equipment, cheap.

Wouldn't house insurance cover the repair/replacement of this, espcially
under the circumstances?

You're making the assumption that there WAS insurance.
Even so, insurance usually wouldn't have covered everything and there
are priorities.
Want to just FIX whatever can be fixed.
I've fixed laptop keyboards before, but those had slots and keys
that could be manipulated to slide apart and separate the parts.
This IBM doesn't seem to have that. Looks like it's glued together???
I'm confident it could be cleaned up if I can get it apart and back
together.

No, you really, _REALLY_ shouldn't disassemble a 600 series keyboard!
Remove the keyboard from the laptop using the directions in the Hardware
Maintenance Manual for the 600E available on the IBM website.
Then clean the keyboard with as much care as possible using brushes and high
pressure air, finishing up with a rinse in clean water, followed by careful
drying.
