[LAN College] High ping in any online game, want to reduce.

Hello, Im currently on a college campus where my latency in any online game is pretty horrible. I get around 400-500 ping on average during the day. I wanted to know if there is anything I can do to get better connections or latency. I was also wondering If I bought a wireless router, if that would help reduce latency.

I am going to guess that the problem is due to the college network, which there is nothing you can do about it.
Does anyone else have a low ping that you know of or is everyone getting high pings?
