CPU AND GPU

My system is rwo years old and I'm ready to move on. My ? is cpu matched to gpu card. if I go with ati hd 5850 and amd propus 630 chip or down grade the card to a hd 5770 and upgade the cpu to amd 955. I play alot of games but not at hi res.

Whats your motherboard? Do you plan to crossfiring later? What kind of games do you play?

It would help if you answered those ?'s but you really cant go wrong with a 5850 and a 4 core processor.

cod- wordl at war and left 4 dead 2 - just finished them. Have cod -mw2 have not loaded it. I'm just getting started have not picked anything yet. just want to get cpu and gpu matched as best as I can.

Well really any 4 core processor will do, the 955 does overclock better and is a little bit better than the athlon. But the 955 is costs more because it overclocks better and it has a L3 cache (which helps but doesnt make that much of a difference) but if I had to choose I would chose your first option. Both quad cores are good but if I had to choose between a 5850 and a 5770, I would definitely choose the 5850.

The fps difference between the athlon and 955 isnt as big as the fps difference between the 5770 and 5850. You can still get other opinions though.
