Moderate CPU bottleneck. You'll need at least 3.0 or so on a C2D to truly ring a 4870.

4770 is about 7-10% better than a 4830 and 7-10% worse than a 4850. A 4870 is about 20-25% better than a 4850

4870 > 4850 > 4770 > 4830

You CPU is a bottleneck. To unlock the full potential of the 4870 you need a E8400 or Q series. However it won't be too much of a bottleneck, if perhaps you can squeeze some OCing.

I would say, Overclock your CPU a bit, and get a 5770 (similar performance to 4870, but adds in DX11 capability and ATI Eyefinity, and its cheaper than any of the 4870's I've seen lately (I'm running a 4870 and been looking for a card to xfire with it).

Just depends on the game, settings, and resolution you're playing at. In general though, that CPU will be a bit of a bottleneck for a 4870. I recommend you overclock the CPU to prevent that, and perhaps get some more RAM.
