Upgrade my PC, budget around $1200

Hello Forums :)

Lets start with my current set-up.

Display: Samsung Syncmaster 2233RZ
MB: ASUS P5W DH Deluxe
CPU: Intel Core2duo 6700@2.66GHz
RAM: 2046MB RAM
GPU: ATI RADEON HD2900XT
HDD: 250GB
Soundcard: None
PSU: Corsair HX620 (620W)
Case: APLUS Twin Engine (v1)
Cooling: Standard, what came with the chassi + parts.
OS: Windows Vista 64bit ULTIMATE (can upgrade to Win7 ultimate 4 free if needed)

I am interested in a GAMING PC with good possibilities of video-editing, some 3d rendering and image-editing. (Sony Vegas/After Effects, Photoshop, 3DS Max, etc)

I have no special parts preference, but since I have a Syncmaster 2233RZ, it would be a small plus if it would be a Nvidia GPU supporting 3D Vision, allthough, overall performance is a lot more important - I am ready to wait with buying my GPU until the end of March when Nvidia release there new series.

I want a new MB, RAM and CPU as soon as possible, and of course I want atleast 4gb RAM.

I do not need a new mouse, keyboard or anything such as that.

I live in Sweden and would prefer shops such as www.inet.se or www.komplett.se.
I understand most of you aren't Swedish so I am okay with links to other sites, if you want to try to use the Swedish pages, "Sök" = "Search" and you can use that field to find parts.
$1200 is around 8000 Swedish kronor.

  1. edit

Just to clarify, I am a total "noob" on hardware and want you guys to show me what you'd upgrade if you were me.
Should I invest in a SSD, do I get the i5 or the i7? etc etc.

(i wasnt allowed to edit original message)
  2. Oh god, sorry guys, I forgot some more info and I still cant edit my previous messages.

I play games such as Bad Company 2 (new games) and I would like to play this with highest graphics possible, if that can be achieved with my budget.

Well the paste from Komplett.se it not the best but I figure you can figure that out. Leaves your 3200 if your reuse your case/power supply if you want overclock then thats changes things but the power supply should be more than enough power for a single video card. Not sure if it would be enough left over for a new fermi card cause theres been no real pricing. You could save a little getting the 500gb F3 but figured you'd want the space with the editing. Found it odd that almost everything carried a higher price after conversion to Kronor except the motherboard which is why I chose it.
  4. Hey take a look at this system it should help.

  5. thanks for the answer guys. forgot to mention that i ONLY need CPU, MOBO, RAM and GPU unless 620W isnt enough.

That means i DONT _need_ new case, hdd, dvd burner etc, a SSD would be cool though, if it can fit in the budget.
  6. Also the reason things seem to be very expensive in "kronor" is because we have a 25% tax on all things we buy.

In other words, if something should cost 100 kr, it is raised to 125kr and the government takes 25kr.

I tried to put together the rig tipmen linked, but the price got to around $1500. :S

and I still cant edit that is why i doublepost.

Also, it became $1500 with only GPU, CPU, RAM and MOBO, so excluding a new case etc, it became more expensive anyway.
  7. Oh, the article i post was to give you an idea of what that i5 system could do and possible budget with a similar system.

yes but I dotn know a lot about hardware and figured that must be the best money can buy, so I was dissapointed when I saw I couldnt afford it, or well, I could start out with an i5, one 5850, 4gb ram (or maybe 6?), a mobo and maybe even a ssd, but I do not know how to pick the components.
  9. Well basically a i5 will offer higher performance then what AMD is offering but it will cost a bit more. Don't worry about a SSD at this moment lets make a system in your price range first.

Sorry but im going to use newegg to make a mini list

(250gb is small for video editing and you can add it to your system with the 1tb for more space)

Where does that bring you on your budget. What is your PSU by the way?

  11. hey since I dont know a lot, does that mobo support 8x8x in crossfire, if i update later?

and I use an external HDD for editing, but yes, i should probably get a MUCH larger internal hdd aswell, hehe.

Thanks A LOT mate btw, i tried the swedish equivalent of "toms hardware" and they really arent helping out.

I appriciate this man, I really do.
  12. Oh and i have a "HX620W" PSU by Corsair.
    http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=327672
  13. Yea the Motherboard supports crossfire. You might want to upgrade your PSU before doing crossfire but now your fine.
  14. 5850 will last on your display res.
  15. which one of these are most worth its price?
    http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=486145
    1 605 USD
    or
    http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=488612
    1 337 USD

Keep in mind that prices are a bit higher in Sweden.
Do you think it'll be more performance for less money if I buy things in a package like that, or if I pick it together myself?
The i7 + 6gb ram is really attractive in the more expensive deal.

Also, no need to point out that the i5 version costs $leet.
