I need to purchase a laptop for a German exchange student. She needs
it here to communicate with home, but will also, of course, take it
with her when she leaves. Question is, do I buy a German laptop with
German Windows and power plug, etc. Or can I configure any laptop to
work that way? Will the power difference be an issue? How would I
get a German laptop here anyway?
Thanks,
...Chris

The only real problem is the character set
engraved on the keys. Everything else is
soft-programmable, all that needs to be
done is reinstall Windows German edition
if she wants to have system messages
displayed om German. Otherwise, English
and German keyboard layouts and input can
be configured in software and toggled via
the toolbar.

The power shouldn't be an issue, you just need a plug adapter (not a
voltage converter). Laptops run on either 110 or 220V.

I wouldn't be so sure.
Most of the recent models from
major brands do indeed work on
100-240V AC 50/60 Hz. But some
older, lower end models may not.
