I going to be building myself a new computer. The last unit I did in Dec. 2007 so it has been long enough. I now have a amd x4800 dual core cpu and a ati 2600xt gpu and 2gig of ram ddr2 -800

I want to know where to find some kind of charts or someone can tell me on the quad core cpu how far do I go and what real world performance would I see over my current cpu.

. Is the amd 945 enough or go higher to the 955 would I see any performance gain from one to the other. Most of all I would like to keep the new unit two years.

More about : upgrade amd x4800 51mgz

If you want to keep the unit two years id go with the X4 955 and really any current generation CPU will beat the Athlon X2 4800. Plus even a 4670 would destroy that graphic card.

How much are you willing to spend and what is your monitor resolution?
And do you mean X2 4800?
Here is the benchmark comparing the x2 4800 with the x4 955:

You can use it to check against other CPU's too.
