USB Ports not working

Hi all like others I have read the thread and have the same problem too! All USB ports died suddenly. I can no longer type or use a mouse (tried two different mice just to be sure) I have a feeling it may just be software but how can I get logged in to fix it? (Machine boots fine - Dell Dimension 5000 - don't know what motherboard but it is an older vintage machine!)

i cant get my ipod to sync to my computer

I'm sorry, I have no experience with the ipod. Try google, and if that doesn't help open a thread in the appropriate section of this forum. Thanks.
