Hello everyone. I am having a problem with a phenom II 965 C3 cpu which is in a crosshair III motherboard. My whole setup has been running strong for about 4 months. I was playing a game one day when my pc suddenly reboted and the post screen said my cpu has overheated. Then i noticed my cpu fan was broken. so i replaced it and booted my pc back up and continued playing. An hour later i went and upgraded my bios to the latest verson. The next day my pc became very slow and unresponsive. CPUz said my cpu was running at 800 mhz with cool and quiet turned off. To make sure of this i ran the windows experiance evaluator and my cpu scored a 3.2 compared to its usual 7.4.

What's going on?

Edit: I installed a Sempron 140 and it runs properly at its normal speed.

its because you have cool n quiet enabled in the bios. Same thing happened with my X3 720 BE, it was running at 888MHz, i turned off cool n quiet and boom, no more BSODs or lowered MHz

I already said that i turned it off. I think that the cpu was damaged when it overheated. Prime 95 doesn't make the clock higher at all.

The thread is a little bit old but I'm experiencing a similar issue at the moment. Interesting thing is: When Cool'n'Quit is turned OFF the CPU is always throttled to 800Mhz but if it is turned ON, the CPU - depending on the load - goes up to 3,4Ghz.
