Hello, i have an hp pavillion dv6629us. i currently am running an AMD dual core Athlon™ TK-53 (1.7-GHz. 512-MB L2 cache)i've done some research and found other socket S1 processors that are cheaper than the one's hp suggests in their manual, will any socket S1 processor work with this AMD mother board or are the ones in the manual the only compatable cpu's ?

I wouldn't upgrade a laptop cpu; it's a hit or miss option. Also, you may have some heat issues with the faster cpu. If you are successful, consider upgrading the fan heatsink or get a laptop cooler, which sits under the laptop and has one or two extra fans blowing air up to the case to assist cooling. These are a must for gaming, which can increase the cpu temps to the point of freeze ups on the screen.
