Hello. new2site - Antec Performance One build

Edited out ide, and antec psu in
Hey everyone. I've decided on buying a gaming/graphic design workstation pc, and this time around building it with parts myself. I have gathered a short parts list so far from newegg.com excluding the gpu(s) monitor(s) key and mouse, as I'm waiting on Fermi results and looking for ssd/ gpu price drops.

Anyways I really don't have a budget or time to purchase.

Also I would like to make sure I'm not forgetting anything, Plus any incompatibilities noted would be greatly appreciated a head of time. I'm hoping with your help to put this beast together in 4 hours, as estimated.. (probably only an hour with the right parts) as i told my gf laughing at her idea of it taking a week (building it from scratch!??) lol thanks :D

  1. what do you need a round IDE cable for ? all your devices are SATA and dont need that cable ?

A sunbeam ATX psu would fit why not buy a quality brand ?

You also havent listed a graphics card so its hard to guess what wattage you might need
  2. oh haha thanks for the quick response.. minus the ide.. thought i might need it as im wondering, what will connect the dvd hdd to mobo? sorry if i dont understand. and for the gpu. I'm waiting on prices to drop on the radeon hd 5970... also would i be able to install two 5970's later on down the road if decided?

as for the ide i took it out of the list and also replaced the psu with an antec 650W.. i think it should be fine yes?... Is there anyone using the Antec case that can give me some feedback?
  3. Your CPU and motherboard aren't compatible. You have an LGA 1156 CPU and an LGA 1366 motherboard. Here's a couple nice combo deals to consider:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.356954 $554.98 - $15 MIR (i7 930 + Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 combo)

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.350315 $579.98 (i7 930 + ASUS P6X58D Premium combo)

The OCZ Gold RAM isn't great. Here's an excellent CAS 7 DDR3 1600 kit that runs at 1.5v.

    G.SKILL PI Series 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL7T-6GBPI - Retail $179.99

That particular hard drive uses three 333GB platters. You'd be better off with a drive that uses two 500GB platters since the higher data density makes the drives faster. Here's a couple options:

    Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST31000528AS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive $89.99

This is the new version of the WD Black drive that uses 500GB platters:

    Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive $119.99

You could save some money on the OS by getting the OEM version.

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders - OEM $104.99

You can save money on the CPU cooler by going with this one instead:

COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus Intel Core i5 & Intel Core i7 compatible RR-B10-212P-G1 120mm "heatpipe direct contact" Long life sleeve CPU Cooler - Retail $34.99
  4. Hey thanks! I was not sure really and was going to look at the usb 3.0 supported mobo's! this is awesome!... but is there going to be any trouble hooking things up with two 5970s in there?... also, the windows 7 and cheaper cpu heatsink and HDD is just perfect! brought the total price down by at least 100$ with an extra added 3 way sli and usb 3.0! not to mention option of adding a six core intel later on :D

  5. I don't know that much about the case that you chose, but i would say that you may need a Full tower to ensure no problems with the length of the cards fitting in.

Also in other posts comments have been made that if you were to run 2 x 5970 your PSU would probably be better to be 1000W instead of 650.
  6. Hmm yeah.. Good possibility!.. the case its pretty big!.. I mean it looks big. and I'm not a pro or anything but I think it should be ok.. as for the psu.. I'll look into it some more and again, any feedback is appreciated!
  7. Best answer
  8. that one is 20.20" x 8.40" x 22.90" the antec i picked out is at 21.3"(H) x 8.1"(W) x 19.9"(D)... pretty much the same.. as for the psu.. i think this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371009
will be good enough for future upgrade purposes. ie, extra gpu, hdds, ssds <-power mongers ;)
  9. sounds good - good luck with the build
  10. Thanks, just have to wait for GPU price drops or just going with the fermi and its all systems go!... a major upgrade since my last purchase ha.. Toshiba Satellite P4 1.80Ghz 786MB ram 16MB geforce4 420 go woo! 03 bought.. for an arm and a leg ;)
  11. HMM, I'm looking at this youtube installation of the coolermaster hyper 212 Plus http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhLRGy0tF7I and left wondering if the http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231335 ram is going to fit in there (check at min 6:37)? there were a few customer comments stating this on the ram.. anyone have an idea?
  12. Bump* Hey, I was wondering if the 850W Antec psu, http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371009 was going to be enough since, there will be 9 120mm fans in my Antec 1200 case, 10 including the fan on this psu.. the i7 930 and possible dual 5970's on aAsus p6x58d..

I was checking prices and reviews and on most except the antec psu i chose, have a lot of bad 7 months to one year the fry! comments. should i be in the clear?
  13. Shopping cart updated
Well I'm pretty cool on this, haha One gpu at a time.. still holding off for nvidia releases. Yet this is a rockin cart!... Thanks for the help people!.. Antec 1200 it IS, since the "Performance One" is not listed on the canadian site.
