Need Advice... Gaming Rig ~$2000-3000

Ok so first i need to know whether or not i should upgrade and if i do what will be useful from my current system so ill list my current specs and then what im after in an upgrade... ne help would be appreciated

Current Spec
MoBo: DFI DK lanparty 790FXB M2RSH
PSU: Corsair Dominator TX 650W
CPU: AMD Phenom II 940BE @ 3.4ghz
RAM: Corsair Dominator DDR2 @ 1066mhz
GPU: XFX HD4890 x2

What im after
Date: within the next 2-3 weeks
Cost: $2000-2500
Usage: Hardcore Gaming (like to play the newest games on max settings)
Parts i dont need (i only want the system i have all other components (mouse kbd ect.)
Preferences: AMD over Intel, ram not fussy, geforce or radeon.
Overclocking: yes dont care if it is sli or crossfire
max monitor res is 1680x1050


Comments:
the main reason for the upgrade is the jump to am3 and ddr3
have an open mind but was looking at an AMD quad again and either a 5870 or 2 x 4890 or even a GTX295

Hmm.

Looks like all you need is a new Mobo Ram and GPU. I think it would be pointless to upgrade the 940 when the hex cores are around the corner.

Also seeing how you are looking to spend 2-3 grand on a computer why dont you ready yourself for the hex cores from AMD?

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) CL7 1600 $115


HD5970 if you can find one in stock. 700 bucks.

Currently the 5970 is the best card on the market until Fermi comes out and from all the reviews Ive read it probably still will be.

I think upgrading would be your best choice.
