Hi,
I am having trouble with thief 2 crashing on my winxp computer. I can't
play at all.I downloaded the patch , and
am going to keep researching this, but does anyone know offhand if you can
play this game on WinXP? I also ordered the first game, and am really
worried about that one playing too.
Thanks,
Linda

Yes, they both play well on an XP system but there are caveats. Can you
explain more about what you mean by "crashing"?

Yes, I can get to the screen where it says New game, Load Game , etc. When I
select new game, it goes black , then
I hear a little ding (like windows audio alert) and screen stays black. When
I hit enter I am back at desktop.

Perhaps you're having a problem with the Indeo/Ligos video codecs. Some
XP users seem to experience this. Try reinstalling the codecs and see if
the game works then since it sounds like it's CTD right when it should be
playing a movie.

Linda... I had problems with my new Hyperthreading P4 system. If you have a
newer P4, you might have the same problem. Details & fix can be found on this
thread at TTLG. http://ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75031

If it's crashing at a cutscene, hit a key to skip the cutscene. This is another
Indio/Ligos CODEC problem that is caused by XP and Media Player.

There are several FAQ type questions on that page. Maybe one will help?
