I'm grabbing a new board, and I'm looking at this one... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... I plan to get this ram... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... My question to you is whether I should grab 6gb at 1600mhz or 4gb at 2ghz... and also, do you think that board will work okay w/ my rig? I'm also curious whether I should grab the 790x board or get a 890 type board... what's the difference? if any?

1) Your board is a very good board. The only reason to jump to a 890GX/FX board would be to gain USB 3.0 & SATA III support. If those aren't a concern of yours, stick with the 790X.

2) For memory, I would stick with 4GB (2x2GB) for your board at DDR3 1600. Also, I would go with this RAM instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

That is a good board for the price. A 890 board would be more expensive but have USB3 and SATA 6GB support. 6gb memory kits are for LGA1366 so 4GB is what you should get.

why should I go with that ram? (not trying to be rude, I actually haven't got much knowledge about RAM... are the timings better on the ripjaw? I also thought you wanted the highest speed...-thanks :)

The reason I recommended the G.SKILL is for 1) tighter timings (CAS Latency) is more important than Speed (MHz) and 2) the memory is cheaper (though by not much :)  )

G.SKILL is Cas7
Corsair is Cas9
