Overclocking HD4850

I have a SAPPHIRE 100245HDMI Radeon HD 4850 512MB and was wondering how much can I overclock it. If I need a good cooler, what should I get?

Thanks

  1. If your mobo supports it you might want to put the money toward a 2nd 4850 and run in crossfire.
  2. Just to let you know here is my system specs

    AMD Phenom II X4 955BE
    GIGABYTE GA-790XTA-UD4 AM3
    Corsair PC3-16000 4GB Kit 8-8-8-24
    SAPPHIRE 100245HDMI Radeon HD 4850 512MB
    Samsung F1 500 gig
    Antec EarthWatts 500watts
  3. I wish i could buy another one but i don't have anymore money :(. So overclocking is my best bet.
  4. that looks good. I heard something about passive cooling is that any good?
  5. well, if you buy an Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 and attach a 120mm fan you can overclock pretty dang far. My 4850 is sitting at 700 core, 1133 mem. Max temps dont exceed 47C.

    also very quiet.
  6. with those speeds, do you see any significant improvements in frame rates?

ok. my monitor is at 1920x1080. I am testing with Furmark 1.8. The MSAA is at 4x, and ran for 30s.

    OCd: 875 pts.
    Stock:777 pts.

    so, i guess a 12.6% improvement. (875-777) = 98, and then 98/777 = 12.6

when the MSAA was increased to 8x, scores were identical. Max temps after those 30s was about 40C.
  8. thanks for your replys
