Motherboard does it for you provided that your laptop's motherboard supports dual-channel operation. Different brands and sizes should not matter. Dual-channel maps for the smallest size. The following conditions do not need to be met: Same brand Same timing specifications Same DDR speed Memory channel speed is determined by the slowest DIMM module populated in the system.
