I am fixing my mates pc. It needs a new grapichs card. He has got an intel mobo with a pentuim 4 processor. He would like to spend around £30-£50 as he is only going to use for work and your basic windows games. He has only 256mb worth of ram. I was just wondering if anybody could recomend a basic graphics card and also is it worth me advising him on maybe purching another 256mb worth of ram for use with the graphics card.

okini is probably mistaken-- you most likely have an AGP slot on your motherboard-- so would only be able to purchase and AGP card--not a PCIe x 16.

It's still not worth upgrading though.

have a look on ebay but i would cut my loss and move on. deadlockedworld is right, its worth checking the socket type and make sure it can take a pcix card.

get him a new set of 2x 512 DDR2 ram and either a 5450 or a 9500gt. either should be about the same price.

I would be tempted to choose the 9500gt because you can use that for physx at a later date if you want. i have a 9500gt working with my 4890 and they play nice together.

bad news i have yet to find a game i really see the use of physx...
