T:DS - Where are the gloves?

I am still on day one of the game and only rented it till tomorrow. I
am going after the Paw, but where are the gloves that we are suppose to
have?
The manual says how to use them, but not where to find or equip them.
Should we have them on day one of the mission?

you dont get the gloves until you get into the shop in the Docks. AND have
at least 2000 gold to buy them.

In the docks. No, you can't get there now. You'll have to spend some quality
time with the Keepeers first ...

As far as I can make out you won't need them, unless you're going for
Expert level: some loot is placed in difficult to reach places. I doubt
that the value of that loot covers their cost, though: it dosn't feel
like the best available use of available money in the early missions at
least.

I don't think you can get into the clock tower without them though. I might
be wrong of course - did somebody manage to find a way in there without the
gloves?

You're right -- I had forgotten that one. Have I forgotten more?

I would have thought it should have been a minor design goal to allow
a rookie player to get through on Easy without the gloves, though ...

I agree, especially as I can't recall any other place you depend on the
gloves, apart from getting loot - oh yes, you need to climb in through the
top window to the keepers place at one point, as the ordinary entrance
doesn't work. That's all I can remember right now, but there might be more?

Well, with limited time, unless I rent the game for a couple of more days, I
guess I will avoid the gloves.

Yes, because I managed to get up to the pipe on day one, then thought
"well, there was a stack of crates, a tempting looking set of pipes,
and now that I'm up here what's the point?"

I've only run across one treasure (in the clock tower) that required
the gloves. I wonder what people would say if they didn't have the
gloves then discovered that they couldn't complete the mission (maybe
there's another way to get that loot)? The gloves were invaluable
when I needed to climb back up the clock tower to get a missing piece
of loot.

Should be possible to build a crate stack up to the pipe, IIRC, there
are two large crates in that courtyard.
