Sub 700 build, could use your 2 cents

Hey ya'll, i'm building a comp soon to play Aion, Fallout 3, Dragon Age Origins, Starcraft 2, Mass Effect 2...Diablo 3 when that bad boy comes out

I made this rig on Newegg and want to see what you guys think about it. After rebates it comes out to 678 dollars. I don't have an OS in the build though, but that cost isn't in the rig cost, i'm going to get win 7 64 bit no matter what. is the build, do your worst on the critics cuz I want to really see whats good/bad about it.

I will be playing on 1900x1200 res

Eventually want to OC but NOT crossfire

Case- i love the way this cm 310 looks, real sexy with the silver line and window that will show off a future cpu cooler.

HD- little 160g seagate barracuda to get me started, will get other drives as i need more room

GPU- good ol 5770, solid card that will run those games well on my res i feel. On Fallout 3 and Aion things might get a bit choppy but i can just turn of shadows for a nice fps not a guy who really cares about shadows or AA/AF

Ram- 4 gigs of kington ram to get the job done, i'm loving the cas 7, i hear its good for gaming but don't know why...maybe you can help me out wit that knowledge

Cpu/mobo combo phenom II x2 555 be with an asus am3 evo board. I want to stick to a dual and eventually upgrade to a 6 core. None of the games i want to play will really need a quad core, and honestly i dont think at my res 4 cores will really do much, the gpu will be working overtime on that res. I can also use the board to maybe unlock 2 more cores, but i'm not betting on it cuz its just random luck

PS/Optical they seem allright, the ps glows red....woohoo

So yea, thats my build, it comes out to 678 as of right now with rebates and I could use your 2 cents.

On your marks get set gogogogogogo!

p.s. Any thoughts on the razer lycosa or the g15 v2 logitech keyboards would be much appreciated =D

More about build cents
  1. Here's a better gaming build. Besides the triple core, you also get USB 3/SATA III, a high quality PSU, a better case, and the best HDD out there right now.

    CPU/Mobo: X3 440 and Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4 $197 after rebate
    RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws 2x2 GB 1600 mhz CAS Latency 7 $115
    HDD: Seagate 7200.12 500 GB $55
    GPU: HD 5770 $155
    Case/PSU: Antec 300 Illusion and Earthwatts 650W $130
Optical: Cheap SATA DVD burner $25

    Total: $677
  2. I just copy pasted the links and added to the shopping cart and after rebates the total is 743, I don't know how you got 677.

I like that ram, it looks real cool too. Are OCZ power supplies that much worse than Earthwatts?

Good tip on the tricore, I could even drop the mobo price more because I don't have to look for one with a sb750 to unlock a core cuz i'll already have three.

The Antec case looks nice with the blue fans, def has more reviews than the one I like.
  3. I have no idea how you're getting $743. I just checked everything and the prices are right. Adding everything to the cart gives me $691.92 w/ $9.99 shipping. Do you have to pay tax where you are?

OCZ PSU are a lot worse than Earthwatts. Antec's units are high quality, while I would call OCZ's medium to low quality.
  4. Yea, tax exists where I do you not get taxed on newegg?! zomg

You get taxed if you live in a state where Newegg has an office or warehouse.

I did just notice that you didn't want to Crossfire. In that case, X3 440 and Gigabyte GA-770TA-UD3 and Antec 300 Illusion and Neo Eco 520W would save you about $50.
  6. You cheeky bastard!!!!! Tax sucks so much on budget rigs, its like the cost of another HD or half of your ram cost!

Thanks for the info on psu's, I don't really know much about them but Antec is a good company so it makes sense they pump out good psu's.

I hate you so much for not having tax!! but love you for your tips...
