I notice that several of you use Pbase. I have been unable to log in for
about a week and Pbase doesn't answer any of my e-mails. Is anyone else
having this problem? Do you have any idea what is wrong?

Thanks

Haven't had a problem here. Just uploaded a shot the other day.

My only other thought, I do have a paid account -- you didn't mention
anything about paid vs. free? Subscription expiration date?

(Hey, when there's software involved ....)

Caps lock on when logging in, perhaps?

I do have a new paid account. Just opened it earlier this month. I just
this morning got my first response to my requests from Pbase. Very
helpful - it said that I have to be logged in. Hell, I have logged in
several times and I still can't do anything. At least I got some response
and I guess it will be fixed sometime.

Thanks

Nope, I double check things like that. It is a paid account. Something has
been set wrong in my account and I guess it will be fixed sometime. As I
said to DaveT, I at least finally got a response from Pbase, even if it was
of no help.

PBase has been totally screwed up for the last 2 days. They are having
some kind of serious problem with their system.

That seems to be the case with my account but a couple of other responders
say that they are having no problem. It's good to know that I am not the
only one having the problem.

Yesterday and the day before...their servers seemed to be VERY SLOW (and
they're usually nice and quick). Perhaps there's a larger temporary
problem...

I e-mailed them and they're blaming it on the holidays. Whatever.

Sounds kinda lame, but it makes sense.
More family pictures are taken over Thanksgiving than any holiday other than
Christmas...and there are usually large numbers of family present at those
events, meaning LOTS of people all over teh place are clicking those
e-mailed links...

I don't know if I'm totally buying it, but it could be why...

That could explain why clicking on a link is slow, but my embedded links
on DPReview never show up at all. Maybe they have something that blocks
the embedded links.

From the pbase home page:

29-Nov-2004 - There was a power failure at the ISP today which caused some
downtime, especially with uploads and editing of galleries. Apologies for the
inconvenience.

No explanation of why pbase is still so slow. They have added lots of
"improvements" in the past few days and that usually spells trouble.

Well, that wouldn't explain a lot of the delays when people should be,
by all rights, out and about and racking up credit card debt.

My problem is a little different from a 'slow down'. I login and everything
looks normal. I get the screen showing my statistics and options to upload
a photo to the inbox or to create a new gallery. When I try to do either, I
get a message telling me that I have to login in order to do the function.
My login is actually accepted, but it won't allow me to do anything.
Somehow or another, my account is screwed up. I asked 'Elise'. I belive is
the name, to login as me and attempt the same thing and she had no problems.

She suggested a possible cookie or firewall problem, so I turned off the
firewall, enabled all cookies, and even disabled my anti-virus and still had
the problem. I experimented with all settings I could think of on my system
to no avail, so I am just stuck until she can find something.

If anyone has a suggestion as to what else I could try on my system, I would
appreciate it.

Yeah, it seems as if "improvements" always cause problems. I am still
suffering from Zone Alarm "improvements". I started my programming career
in 1967 and am familiar with the problems of trying to improve software. I
always dreaded the day we came up with a 'new and improved' system. It
meant several 12 hour days finding and correcting the problems.

Yep, I've done that - several times. No better results.
