Gigabyte EP45-UD3P RMA Issue

Forum Motherboards & Memory : Gigabyte Gigabyte EP45-UD3P RMA Issue

Word :    Username :

Hi, I'm new here and I just had my EP45-UD3P RMA'ed due to it just dying after a heavy thunderstorm in the middle of the night... Anyways, I RMA'ed it, but they told me they can only get me an EP45-UD3R! Of course, I said no, and then they offered me a $10 refund if I took the UD3R... Is this how Gigabyte usually works? Just replace a board with another instead of trying to fix it? And do you guys here think that I should take the UD3R and the 10 bucks or keep waiting for my UD3P? Thanks in advance! :)

If you want to CF or if you LAN part {I doubt it} then clearly wait for the GA-EP45-UD3P. Otherwise get the replacement MOBO.

specs - GA-EP45-UD3P http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813128358
specs - GA-EP45-UD3R http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813128359

"My thoughts" anyway.

Thanks! CF isn't particularly important to me, I just wanted it so the board can be a bit more future-proof!

Also, I just received another Email from Gigabyte and they say they can also give me the option of refunding me $80! Also, my local computer shop says they have a brand new Gigabyte EP45-UD3L for $80! Do you think I should take the NEW UD3L or the replacement UD3R?

I'd take it, but review the specs and make certain it has what you need works {CPU, RAM, PCIe, etc}.

Motherboard makers pretty much do not repair returned motherboards. It is just not cost effective.

The LGA775 motherboards are, for all practical purposes, 2 generations behind state of the art. "Future proof" with respect to an LGA775 motherboard is a null concept.

A brief synopsis of specs, working from lowest to highest:
L: non RAID, single GPU, single ethernet port.
R: RAID, single GPU, single ethernet port.
P: RAID, Cross-Fire GPU's, double ethernet port.

Keep in mind that if you do RAID, you probably will not be able to move the array to a newer system.

Ultimately, you need to decide which specs are important to you.

^ MOBO Repair - if it test OK it gets sent back, if it fails it goes to the trash bin.

It appears GA determined failure and is fresh-out of original MOBO.

I'd take the $ and get NEW with NEW Warranty...

Sorry about not making it clear, what I meant to say was that when I purchased the board, I wanted to keep my options open, but it's not exactly important to me!

Also, I was going to overclock the system before it just broke, so does the 2 boards have a difference in terms of overclocking performance? Also, what about temps? Would it differ by a lot?

If there's any difference between the 2 GA MOBO it is negligible for OC.

Thanks to everyone who replied! (This forum is awesome!) I have decided to get the UD3R and the 10 bucks because it seems to be superior in terms of heat and overclocking according to some research that I have done! The ironic thing is that I sent the email this morning, and I went to school, and when I came home and checked my emails, Gigabyte suddenly said that they have an UD3P that they can give me! :o Anyways, I guess I should close this thread now! Again, a thousand thanks to jaquith and jsc! :)
