Why my DXDIAG showing 9800 gtx as 2 gig ram?

When I run DXDIAG. My NVIDIA 9800 GTX 512 MB Ram shows up as 2 gig. Why would that be? Thanks.

Maybe it's total available video memory including what could be allocated from the system if the onboard GPU is disabled.

I have the same card and Dxdiag shows ~1700MB...

It shows the total gfx memory of which 512MB is of your card and rest is shared system memory(Doesn't significantly improves performance).

on my hd4850 1gig dxdiag shows 2808MB from 1024MB is video mem.

so like the others said, it is shared system memory

So, Is this normal? I never noticed this before. But Win XP would show the correct ram on my old AMD with a ATI 9800.

Yes this is normal.

Happens with Vista and Windows 7.
XP didn't had this feature.
