hi,
has anyone seen this configuration?

Tri fire I guess is what its called as opposed to quad fire?

The HD5870 MIGHT reduce its clocks though.

ati is not nvidia it wont reduce the clocks

I thought that ATI cards downclocked and Nvidia's did not, though they used to with pre 156.something drivers?

Fermi is better than HD5870 with Tessellation due to GPGPU capabilities. HD5870 is better in every other game, I think. HD5970 will dominate its ass.*

thats why its possible to crossfire similar ati cards and not the exact cards like in sli

Yeah, started with 3-Series.
3850/3870/3870X2 CF's were possible, expanded to include all of 1 family in the 4-series.
4830/4850/4870/4890, 4650/4670, etc.
