My cooling fan is a Alpine 64 PRO Rev.2 CPU Cooler for AMD and i've ordered an AMD Bulldozer FX-6100 and was wondering if it would cool it adequately. My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3 if you need to know that.

If it isn't compatible with my stuff would it cool my brothers AMD Athlon II X2 250 3GHz on his Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P?

I've never used anything but the stock fan so sorry if this is a dumb question any help will be appreciated.

That cooler will be equal to or less than the stock cooler. I'd get a better one especially if you plan to overclock. Hyper 212 + would be a good one.

Is the Alpine adequate for your current cpu and what cpu do you have now? That info will help us advise you about your brother's rig.

I have an FX-6100 and haven't tried it with the fan yet and my brother has an Athlon II x2 250 and is using the stock cooler.
The fan cooled my Phenom II 965 as well as the stock cooler but was quieter. (But I didn't fit it so this is my first time fitting a none stock cooler)

Would the fan be quieter than the stock fan on the fx-6100?
If not would it cool the Athlon more then the stock?

You can always go cheap and get the deepcool mc3002 gx , i use it on my oc'd 1090t and fx 8350 and it keeps them cool ,and is dead silent , for 18.00 it's hard to beat . Easy install as well , no taking off the MB to mount a back plate
