Dell PERC 6/E

Last response: in Storage

Greetings all,

I have acquired a Dell PERC 6/E Raid Controller and 6x 2TB SAS Drives. I've placed them in RAID 5 with two partitions. One 500GB partition for the OS and one 9TB partition for storage. I have the PERC 6/E installed on a EVGA Z68 Sli and I would like to install windows 7 x64. When I try to install on the OS partition it says that Windows can't install because its GPT. The firmware for the MoBo and RAID card are up to date. Is there any work around for this issue? I found in another forum that I might need to load updated drivers when installing for the RAID card but I cannot find them anywhere.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

By the way a PERC is a DELL poweredge raid controller for a server, commonly used for external storage attached to the same server, not intended to be used for booting an OS.

But you might still get it to work.

My EVGA Z68 Sli doesn't support UEFI boot which is a shame. The PERC 6 with 6 SAS drives in RAID 5 is super quick. I guess I'll just use it for games/apps/storage partitions and keep my two SSDs in RAID 0 for my OS.

Thanks for the help.
