How to fully uninstall drivers....

I want to do a completely clean install of the graphics drivers and the ccc. How do I go about doing that? On Win7 64 bit, ATI HD 4870.
I just want to be sure I completely remove the drivers and ccc, and want to check to make sure it is before installing it again.
I have tried to reinstall it several times and my problems are getting worse or at least the original problem still does not work, the ati overdrive settings don't show and really need it to work cause the factory settings are wrong and need to adjust it (mostly because with the factory defaults I get artifacts all over my desktop and while gaming). I tried to use ati tray tool but that seems to be giving me more problems, but if I set it in that the artifacts go away and I get great graphics.

Thanks in advance for help!

I was afraid someone would say that "Or you could do a full reinstall of Windows."
I just hate to install everything again, such a pain and takes so damn long.
I'll give driver sweeper or driver cleaner a try 1st.
thanks

I haven't used the programs in a while, but be careful not to remove the chipset drivers when you clean out the video drivers (this is only a risk if you have an ATI/AMD chipset). Also, I assume you have already tried the catalyst uninstall utility and uninstalling the drivers in device manager?

no its Nvidia chipset. and yes I tried to uninstall and reinstall the ccc and graphics drivers several times with no avail.
I got the driver cleaner and tried that, reinstalled the ccc and drivers again and didn't seem to help :(
At least with the problem of the overdrive working. It still won't work and I reinstalled the ati tray tools, because I really need a way to control the GPU and Memory freqs. I sent another RMA ticket to diamond for a solution, maybe?
See what they say. I am really frustrated with them and I am to the point to trash this card and buy another from someone else (thinking XFX, hopefully they have better customer support).

If you get artifacts when gaming at the factory defaults, you have a bad card my friend, or the card is getting too hot. Do you have good airflow in your case? Stop trying to fix a bad GPU by underclocking it. By the way, you did unlock the overdrive settings, didn't you? They won't work, they will all be grayed out until you unlock them. But really, you are wasting your time and money. Send the card back for a replacement.

The factory defaults are 500/1100? And, NO! it's not grayed out, it just doesn't show. I have the tab but when I go to it, it just says "ATI Overdrive capabilities have not been properly initilized yet. Please try again later.". I was told it was because the program wasn't fully installed or didn't complete install. That is why I wanted to completely uninstall and reinstall the ccc.

Did they reject your first RMA ticket?

No. They didn't reject it, it just took them a month to respond to it and just to ask if I had updated the drivers and other stupid sh** I had tried and retried. Then another month went by before they had a response to that. Then another month went by before they said to send it back for test/repair. And they had it for 3 weeks and when I finally found a way to call them they said it was the cards bios that needed to be flashed and that was the problem.

I am not underclocking the GPU. Just the memory speed some.
Both settings don't work from defaults. And I tried many settings to get 0 artifacts, but the settings I use seem to be the best. And yes I do agree that I shouldn't have to touch those settings and that was 1 huge point I made to Diamond when I wanted to get it fixed.

Side note: Before I sent it in for the repair, the ATI overdrive worked fine through the ccc. Back then I did underclock it quite a lot (don't remember the settings I used as that was like 6 months ago). And yes love for them to Just replace it, as that is what I was told back then, "the card is bad" or "the card has bad solder flow. which is causing the artifacts". BUT again this is my dilemma, they are dicking me around and why I really don't like Diamond anymore. It's funny in a way, because where I bought the card the salesman said he would either buy Diamond or XFX because they have the best customer service. Well I found out Diamond's customer service sucks.

But, I appreciate your help and others. I was just hoping someone could enlighten me on something I am missing or anything to help me resolve this problem for now. At least until I can buy either a new card or maybe until I can just build new.

This is the ticket from that RMA. Notice the dates...............................
And notice the last 3 responses was me trying to find out the status of my card (actually the last is their final response to the card. see how long it took for them just to say something!). Well, before that happened I finally found their phone number to call and find out the status. But that was just a few days before their final response on the ticket.

Subject possible defective graphics card? Priority High Status Closed

August 15, 2009, 05:36 AM possible defective graphics card? [ markgoetz ] Client

Bought on 5/15/09 the Radeon HD 4870 graphics card.
Problems.. While watching a video or movie on Media Player (or other such video player) I get Horizontal lines across the screen (on monitor or TV via DVI input). These lines are for the most part about 1/3 way up the screen and seem to intensify with fast action motion or bright flashing lights/effects.
Also, when I am playing a MMOG (such as World of Warcraft) I get the pixel like dots that flash all over the screen (gets real bad in High activity areas or areas that seem to have a lot more detail in the environment).
I was back at where I bought it and what seemed to be the guy who was kinda their expert with ATI cards said it was more then likely defective card, since it has done this from day 1 of install, just then I figured I didn't have the most recent drivers and maybe settings were wrong or something else... So basically I am asking if I can send it to you to get checked out and maybe repaired, if needed. And could you let me know what my cost will be to do that? Any information you need let me know or if there is a test I can do to make sure it is the graphics card?

Yes, I did update the drivers. The problem was from the beginning of installed card.
I did everything I knew to do to make sure it wasn't a problem with my computer (update drivers, make sure of hardware compatibility, and so on). At least I believe all hardware is compatible, Vista does not show me any problems with hardware compatibility.
And I took a lot of time to check and double check everything before sending you guys this ticket.
Thank You

December 12, 2009, 07:09 AM RE: possible defective graphics card? [ markgoetz ] Client

Finally got a response! Thank You

Give me a few days to remove it since it is my main graphics card and have to revert back to the onboard GPU.

Also, as to the problem that was first brought me to here...
I have recently gotten Dragon Age: Origins and had more servere issues. That game caused the graphics card to quit working all together (stop responding), caused the game to shut down but when returned to desktop everything appeared fine. So I had done more research (in your absent of a response) and some said to turn down the "overdrive". I was relectant to do so, as it warns that adjusting those settings can damage the card all together. But with nowhere else to turn I did and it seamed to fix most the problems, at least with World of Warcraft, but not Dragon Age (it is better but still shuts down the game, not as much). Now why would changing the default settings improve this? And is it really a fix? Because to me it is just keeping it from over working itself and says the factory settings are to much? That just doesn't seem right. I still think there is something wrong with it if I can't at least use it the way (at a minimum/factory settings) it was bought for.

Maybe you can enlighten me on this??

I bought your product because the salesmen said "Diamond" has good customer service. I think I might be regretting listening to him. As it has taken you guys to long to respond (IMO).

I hope you have my card by now.
Can I check the status of it? Is it being returned, fixed or replaced?

Thank You

Man I really wish people would read all. Cause I seem to repeat myself all to often. :(

I know what you mean, you'd think that since it was their job to read these tickets they'd actually read them now and then rather than spitting out the usual obvious garbage. I don't suppose you have an old empty hard drive (or partition on the current) to try a fresh install of Windows on, do you? That would be a good way of ruling out software as being the issue.
