The are pretty much equal in performance but the HD5770 has a number of other advantages such as much greater power efficiency and DX11 compatibility. It's also usually cheaper these days.

The HD 4870 has a little better performance.

The HD 5770 has DX11 and consumes less power.

Actually with the driver improvements the HD5770 no longer lags behind the HD4870 in performance.

I would say get the HD5770, Direct X11 plus a bit better performance for newer games. I have 2, can't go wrong!

The 4870 and 260 are still about 10% faster in DX10/9 games....of course they don't support DX11.

At max power draw, the 4870 / 260 draws about 62 more watts than the 5770. If you can manage to squeeze in 20 hours of high intensity gaming a week, it will cost you

62 watts x 20 hours a week x 52 weeks x $0.10 per kwh / (1000 watts per kw x 0.85 efficiency)

At $7.50 a year ....63 cents a month

The 260's price has risen to the ridiculous ... so its the 10% speed advantage in DX10 for the 4870 versus the DX 11 capability and 63 cents a month for the 5770.

Uh, a few months ago i would have recomended the 4870, cuase it was alomst 40$ cheaper than the 5770 on newegg. But now, the prices have shifted around to the point where they are equal, the 5770 is even 5$ cheaper. So get the 5770 at the current prices. If they were to lower the 4870 back to 130$, and the 5770 rasied to 170$, I would get a 4870.

Who games 20 hours a week? Most non addicts play 14 or less. How do you sleep, and maintain a job and freinds playing 3 hours a day?

Yeh, well if you only played on weekends, you would need to play 10 hours a day, to reach 20 hours, and that is not healthy.

Is it sad then that I game about 40 hours a week? :(

Figure the power savings is not only while Gaming -- IF you are using the computer for browsing the net and posting on forums etc. the Idle power draw of the 5770 over the 260 and 4870 will also make a small difference even if you are not gaming that much.

Well I wanted to be conservative as the power thing most often turns pout to be a red herring.

But after reading some of the posts on forums, I'm led to the belief that more than a few posters don't have jobs, friends, real live girlfriends and sleep little :)

Wait a sec.... since I got married and started supporting 3 kids, I resemble that remark.....except for the jobs part .... have 2 of those.

The best AMD processors are the Phenom II x4 chips.

The Phenom 955 BE x4, or if you want to be technical, they rebranded the 955 and called it a 965 and charge more for it. (They changed the mutliplier, something you can do you'reself)
