I would go for the GFX card 1st in that price range you would be best off looking @ ATI cards, no im no ATI fanboy im Nvidia man but the ATI cards wipe the floor with Nvidia @ that price range. Ill let the ATI fanboys recomed which ATI card as they will know best on that.
Waits for the sheep to start bleeting about pentium D, Before ya do everone who ive spoken to on this forum who has actually owned one inc me, says no they dont run hot and they were fine for games mine was happly palayin modern games till it retired 18 month ago. it ran games like oblivion and COH on decent graphcis setting no problem at all. So saddam if they never owned a pent D dont listen to em and welcome to the selective Pent D owners club.

First upgrade your GPU. ATI HD 5670 or 5750 are your best choices depending on your budget. About the CPU you should upgrade to a Quad core, probably the Q8400, or one of the 9xx0 series (eg C2Q 9400) if you have the money.

Dont you think the QX9650 would be better @ that price if he could strech to it, the standard Q9650 is still around £250

yeh but its the chance to grab an awesome cpu @ almost 1/3 cost that he wont be able to get in a few months time @ that price and will keep up with any new games be exellent for multitasking, we plebs dont get many chances to get our hands on a top end extreme cpu even if its the last gen tech. grab em while ya can :D
