Does a harddrive retain information if it is transfered to another harddrive?

I am going to transfer all information (programs, files, etc.) from my old computer to a new one. I want to know if the old hard drive will still have all the information on it or is it blank after transfer?

The data is there invisible in the background unless it gets over written. There are programs that would clean that up!

When you say transfer, What exactly do you mean? Copy and paste, Cut and paste or are you using some form of imageing software like Ghost or Snapshot? Of the three I just mentioned only Cut and paste would remove files sort of. They would be hidden as described by rolli59.

Thanks gang. Everything transfered just fine so I'm no longer worried about any files, etc. that was left on my old computer.
