Phenom II x4 840 Overclock

Hi, I'm helping my friend overclock his computer. We have seen all over the internet that the AMD Phenom II x4 840 is in fact overclockable, but we are having many issues. I'm an Intel guy, so I have that down. His motherboard is a MSI 880g- e45, and we have no idea what it stopping us from increasing the multiplier. As a rule of thumb on Intel OC'ing, I never touch the FSB rate, but I don't know if it's safe to do so with AMD. Currently, my friend has a Cooler Master v6GT running his CPU at 18'C under 100% load. Is there a way to OC his computer?

  1. What are you using to monitor temperature that seems ridiculously low. It is safe to change the fsb on amd
  2. After checking it out that cpu is locked changing the fsb is the only way to overclock it check out what they said on this thread http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/271144-11-phenom
