I am looking at purchasing a Compaq 2103 Laptop from a co-worker. The
specs look ok for my use, but I am unable to find any review of the
unit, eg. if there are any hidden issues.

Also, can not find anyone who sells memory for this laptop.
Recommendation for a good memory supplier?

Thanks

I bought on a month ago at Office Max. It works great. It is not a
super-duper high end machine or anything like that but it gets the job done.
The screen is nice and bright., full size keyboard. Movies via the dvd
player are a joy to watch. Sound, just like any on a laptop, is not so good
but fine when I hook it to speakers. Upgraded to SP2 as soon as it came out
and it works better. It definitly needs more memory, it uses 200 pin
sodimms, you can check it out at www.crucial.com. I have ordered some off
ebay but it isn't yet here. 256mb is around $30 (eBay, crucial is $50); 512
is a litlle less that twice that. www.dealram.com is a good place for memory
prices, and www.newegg.com and www.outpost.com are the places I usually buy
my extra stuff. (Outpost has the 2103 also.)
It's a little heavy, >7pounds. Also, Brenthaven makes a bag that fits
perfectly, the Topload, $40 on ebay (I can send you the seller if you want)
or 170 new.

Don't like: no wow factor like a powerbook, no firewire port, usb 1.1
connections (easily taken care of with a card), wi-fi is not built in, needs
more memory, smallish hard drive

Likes: cost, $669 after rebate, CDRW, dvd playback is good
